At Bel Royal, we aim to construct a curriculum that is ambitious, relevant and designed to give all groups of pupils the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.
A significant part of our planned curriculum is to provide various wider opportunities that provide memorable experiences and the development of lifelong skills.
Each of our Key Stage 2 classes have the opportunity to enjoy a residential trip in the Summer Term, slowly increasing the overnight stays from Year 3 upwards to get them ready for their ultimate off-island residential in Year 6. These residential trips offer numerous benefits; both educational and personal.
At Bel Royal we believe that these visits are a unique opportunity to:
Provide meaningful opportunities for community building where the children play and learn as a team.
Help us to continue our learning out and about, taking advantage of our beautiful island.
Celebrate and recognise each other’s skills and strengths – learning that learning is not just in the classroom
Nurturing self-esteem, self - belief and confidence
Encourage and develop independence and responsibility
Provide children with the opportunity to demonstrate our school values in different situations
Make meaningful curriculum links (PHSE, Geography, Art / DT)
Children in Year 3 will have the opportunity to stay at Camp Bosdet for 1 night during the Summer Term.
During their stay they will take part in shelter and raft building, rock pooling and making beach art.
They will enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner followed by a little campfire and marshmallow toasting.
Our children in Year 4 will have the opportunity to stay at the Scout Centre in St Ouens for 2 nights during the Summer Term.
During their stay they will take part in coastal foraging, bushcraft, watersports and lifesaving, amongst other exciting opportunities.
They will enjoy a campfire on both nights and a delicious BBQ dinner on the second evening.
Our children in Year 5 will spend their transition days at St Aubin’s Fort, giving them the opportunity to meet their Year 6 teacher while getting used to being off the island ready for their Year 6 residential.
During their stay they will take part in razor fishing, coasteering, bell boating, paddleboarding and abseiling among other exciting opportunities. They will enjoy a campfire on both nights and a delicious BBQ dinner on the second evening.
Because the children’s final year in Primary School is a very significant one and marks a time of transition and change. It is very important that as a school we make this time memorable and fulfilling. We want to ensure that our children leave us with a sense of their own achievements, independence, and self-confidence.
This is why we take our Year 6 children off the island to Osmington for their residential.
During their 4-night stay at PGL Osmington the children will be fencing, raft building, abseiling amongst other exciting activities.
