Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children. To fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child centred. This means that they should consider, always, what is in the best interests of the child.
Keeping Children Safe in Education (CYPES, 2024)
Bel Royal School gives the highest priority to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All staff endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children feel respected, valued and nurtured. The school will therefore be alert to signs of abuse and neglect and will follow the Safeguarding Children Partnership Board's procedures to ensure that children receive appropriate and effective support and protection.

Parents/carers should know it is the duty of the school staff to pass on information to relevant agencies which gives rise to a concern about a child’s welfare, including risk from neglect, physical, emotional or sexual abuse. The staff will seek, in general, to discuss any concerns with the parent/carer, and where possible inform them of the referral to M.A.S.H Tel: 01534 519000.
Schools will seek advice from the Education Department's Safeguarding Officer when they have reasonable cause to suspect a child may be suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. Parents/carers will appreciate that the member of staff in the school with responsibility for Child Protection and Safeguarding has a responsibility to act in accordance with the law and in the best interests of all children.
We take safeguarding of children and staff very seriously.
The Safeguarding Children Partnership Board has all the relevant information regarding safeguarding procedures in Jersey.
