Curriculum and Learning

A good curriculum plays an important role in forging life-long learning competencies, as well as social attitudes and skills, such as tolerance and respect, constructive management of diversity, peaceful conflict management, promotion and respect of Human Rights, gender equality, justice and inclusiveness.

At Bel Royal School, we aim to offer all pupils an education that nurtures and develops the values, knowledge, and skills they need to flourish and make a positive difference in our community and the wider world.

This is underpinned by our motto of "Each Unique, Together We Thrive".

Our school is a place of learning where everyone’s UNCRC rights are valued and positively supported. Together, we aim to empower our pupils to grow into respectful, responsible global citizens who understand one another.

When planning our curriculum, we consider the 4 pillars of the curriculum: development of the child, entitlement, equity, and quality.

At Bel Royal we aim to provide an engaging, creative and inclusive curriculum, where we facilitate opportunities for challenge, driven by a passion for learning.

We follow the Jersey Curriculum, which is aspirational and progressive, enabling pupils’ learning to be ‘outward facing’, leading to them becoming well-rounded individuals as well as becoming confident, empathetic, independent learners. We want our pupils to care about themselves, others, and the environment and have carefully planned our curriculum to ensure consistency and promote high expectations for all children to become successful learners.

Our Bel Royal curriculum has a focus on learning that is authentic, real life and local.

Jersey is a unique place. Our island is also closely linked by culture, family, location and history to neighbours, near and far. The Jersey Curriculum is designed to ensure our children and young people grow and learn as well-educated citizens of our island and the world.

It is based on the National Curriculum in England, adapted to reflect both our Island’s unique heritage and environment and the needs of the local economy. The Jersey Curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers in our schools develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.
